What
Makes BoosterBooks So Special?
The programmes are based on:
research into effective teaching and learning
15 years' experience of teaching children with literacy
difficulties and trying to find the most effective way
of helping them learn
There is a focus on the conditions that are set up for
successful teaching and learning to take place for children,
and the importance of adult scaffolding in the process.
We are concerned with how BoosterBooks Outreach Teachers can promote learning by paying attention to:
recruitment and motivation of children
knowledge of individual starting points
how children are engaged with tasks
timing of interventions – when to step in and when
to stand back, so success is experienced rather than failure.
|
We
aim to provide opportunities
for learning that:
challenge but do not overwhelm
fuel children’s natural enthusiasm for learning
get children to use what they already know
encourage problem-solving, risk-taking and self-reflection

What we have is a model drawn from research and good practice
that informs how we structure teaching and learning.
BoosterBooks
programmes are based on what we know about effective teaching
and learning.
This stands in stark contrast to most literacy programmes
that are based, in the main, on theories of reading and
writing. |
