“BoosterBooks is an exciting, innovative and evidence-based approach to literacy teaching and learning. Uniquely, in contrast to most of what passes for 'learning support', BoosterBooks is based on what motivates children to learn”
Professor Alec Webster, University of Bristol

The aim of BoosterBooks is to teach children literacy strategies that will be of most use to them in other areas of the curriculum, so that they become less dependent upon the support of others and have increased confidence in their own problem-solving abilities.

BoosterBooks programmes work because they generate a high level of motivation in children working as a team, supported by sensitive adults, towards a tangible outcome in a set timescale

Benefits for schools:
Teaching support for statemented children can be ‘bought in’ on a needs basis.
Reliable, ‘known’ teachers providing support for ‘learning vulnerable’ children
Immediate help can be given to children for whom there is cause for concern without having to rely on outside agencies or the need to meet strict criteria
There is a beginning and an end to the intervention
Excellent opportunities for diagnostic tuition and evidence gathering
Good practice can be disseminated throughout school
Value for money
Parents may make voluntary contributions to programme and tuition fees. Tax benefits for programme fees “gifted” to schools, allow every fifth child a free place.

Benefits for children:
Being given opportunities to read and write for real reasons and a variety of audiences
To experience working as a team
To be in control of their own learning so they spend their energy on learning what is of most use to them
Having fun and enjoying their learning
Growing confidence
Discovering their own potential
Being valued
The pride of seeing their work in print

Benefits for parents
To become involved with their child’s learning without stress
To help their child learn through games and fun activities
To experience their child being in control of, and taking responsibility for their homework Experience has shown us that it is the children who ‘nag’ their parents to do homework not the other way round!
To know what is expected of them – relieving the frustration of not knowing how to help, which can often result in arguments
To have a happy child, growing in confidence and self-esteem and enjoying their learning experiences
